“The Lovers” - This diptych measures 73 inches wide and 47 inches tall when both pieces are hung together. It is made of heat treated steel and copper, with human body prints using skin safe salts and acids. The two labyrinths, one on the man and one on the woman, are cut from the same piece of copper. They are inverse of each other and fit together. The labyrinth on the man centered on his heart, symbolizing his heart forward energy. The labyrinth on the woman centered on her belly, indicative of both her womb and her intuition. The inspiration for this piece was in noticing the different energies I felt in the men and women around me at the time. I was also interested in exploring using the body prints across two different materials to create a unified shape in two different patinas, red iron oxide and turquoise from the oxidation of the copper.
